Devaux, to "My Dear Children," re hatred and fear of freed slaves and northerners, being rescued by scouts during a slave rebellion, killing rebellious slaves, destruction in the community, and freed slaves stealing from plantations; receipt, 28 Jan.-26 Nov. 1866, for blacksmith work; undated essay, "American Literature;" preaching license, 12 Jan. 1868, signed by Bishop Thomas Frederick Davis.
